Castlevania Set of 4 7" Action Figure Review

As a huge fan of the old Castlevania games I took a chance on this NECA four-pack of action figures. I did some homework beforehand on youtube and watched some videos on the articulation, particularly of Simon Belmont, and was extremely impressed at the sheer amount of accessories and points of articulation for the price.

To begin, Simon Belmont is FULLY ARTICULATED, with 360 rotating wrists, a ball joint shoulder, and cut-elbows for turning those (not 360). His upper torso bends slightly and can be turned left or right, his head is on a ball joint and can be moved around pretty well, the legs are on ball joints and the upper thigh is also cut to allow rotation of the leg (this is pretty limited because of his clothing). The knees have a standard joint and the ankles have a limited ball joint. All in all, you can get Simon into pretty much every reasonable pose you can imagine. The head and hands can also be removed and substituted for other NECA parts. He comes with:
1. His full sized whip.
2. His morning star whip.
3. A full-sized sword in the sheath on his belt.
4. A dagger in the sheath on his belt.
5. His cross-boomerang! Hell yeah.
6. Invisibility potion.
7. Candlestick (players will understand this).
8. A spare left hand (open).

The look of Simon and his equipment is very good and detailed and the morning star even uses a real chain and little metal spiked ball. The painting is solid all around and if I had to say anything negative about Simon it would be his expression looks a little strange.

Interestingly enough Dracula (and Alucard) seem to have a better selection of points of articulation than Simon! Both Dracula and Alucard have the 360 rotating removable hands, ball-jointed shoulders, ankles, and head as well as the twisting torso. Unlike Simon, however, they have ball jointed knees AND elbows, allowing them a potentially greater range of poses, though with both Alucard and Dracula this is limited somewhat by their rubberized outfits. Dracula comes with:

1. Holy Water (no idea why).
2. A vampire bat minion.
3. The timepiece.
4. A floating eye with matching transparent stand.

Some versions of Dracula have a closed mouth; mine arrived with him hissing at Simon, which looks pretty awesome. It's a shame you can't just open and close the mouth, but considering all the detail they've put into these figures I'm not going to whine at all. His outfit more closely resembles his appearance in Symphony of the Night, where he had white hair and an evening suit with a red string vest. The overall detailing in the face and touches to the outfit are quality work, though I wish his cape had been some kind of cloth rather than rubberized as it's heavy and makes adjusting his shoulders difficult.

Alucard comes with:

1. Hunk of meat!
2. His sword.

Alucard, like Dracula, is very nicely detailed but can be articulated a bit better as he has no heavy rubber cape weighing down his shoulders.

Finally, the black sheep of the collection is the 'Succubus', a generic monster they threw in to have a female presence -- and it's pretty obvious they just threw this one in. The detail compared to the others is pretty lacking and she can only move her arms at the shoulders with a basic rotation.
One interesting thing, though, is that she comes with:

1. Ygor (or flea-man for the newer games)!

All in all, the Succubus does not detract in any way from the value of the package. You get 3 GREAT, highly poseable and collectible action figures from one of the greatest game series going. Compare this to buying Chris Redfield ALONE for almost $40 from NECA and you can see this is a great bargain and a great product.
