KING: 5" in height, Modeled after the towering masculine sculpture produced for one of the many interior dining spaces of the Midway Gardens entertainment complex. QUEEN: 5", Based upon the Serene Sprite (Contemplative) with folded hands across her chest. At the complex there were numerous sculptures of this Sprite on the walls dividing and surrounding one full square block. BISHOP: This piece was selected from a Sprite holding two square cubes in outstretched arms. Her face tilted upward displays a regal profile while the cubes suggest protection of important judiciary materials. KNIGHT: The Knight in this chess set portrays a guardian / warrior, that would defend her superiors and fellow countrymen. She held a place of honor in the Gardens ROOK: This piece represents the 'anchor' piece. It is placed at the corner of the chessboard and is able to move in horizontal and vertical directions. This chess piece was a pillar at the Midway Gardens complex. PAWN: Though not of high importance in the chess hierarchy, the Pawn plays an important role. It is the 'scout' or leader into battle. This Pawn was a triangular shaped light fixture placed strategically around the Midway Gardens complex. Frank Lloyd Wright Midway Gardens Chess Set Review

The pieces are very nice and are made of a dense resin (slight odor). They are shipped in a very nice storage box. This would have been a five star rating if not for the cheap felt on the bottom of the pieces. Several pieces have their felt applied crooked. On a couple of pieces few the corners of the felt are 'dog eared', meaning they are peeled back. For the price of this set I was expecting perfection.
