I did a lot of online research before settling on my first train set. As all beginner sets with an oval track are easily around a hundred dollars I wanted to get something that was well rated but didn't cost a fortune. Since Athearn has some great user reviews and the price was right I picked it up.

Obviously since this is my first train set I do not have anything to compare this to however I will say that the set is magnificent. The detail on the set is awe inspiring. It is everything I was hoping for from my first set. The oval track is nice as it gives a little more track than a simple circle. The EZ track easily slides together and the power pack is simple to hook up as well. We were setup and chugging along in no time. The durability seems good too as I have had this for several months now and have had no problems. True the cupplings are small little plastic hooks that I could see being broken if used roughly, but if you understand that this is a model you will be very happy with these delicate details.

Because of all this (and more), my interest in train sets has been hightened. I thank Athearn for a great beginner set and Amazon for great pricing.
