The Amscope Microscope camera works as advertised, in the context of which I am using it. I chose the 5.0 MP camera over the 9.0 because of the price difference. I shoot alot of pictures of coins, and this is a welcome addition when I am required to take close up photos of the issue at hand.

Amscope shipped the trinocular microscope and microscope camera fast, in two separate orders. The software that is on the CDROm in the box with the camera is slow and lethargic. I called the Amscope Tech support and they mentioned the Amscope.com home page has an udated software which works better with the microscope camera. The link for the software is at the bottom of the Amscope home page under downloads.

I realize that I am using a microscope to magnify something, and that the outcome may be a bit grainy. At times the software seems to have a mind of its own, but is generally stable. The selections are OK, I can do what I want but sometimes the lighting is too weak, and other times the lighting is way too bright. The Automatic setting works on occasion, but I don't know where they they the default settings from. They should allow for a wizard set up of the camera default to include lighting and then they have a baseline. Like anything else, it takes a bit to get lighting right, and sometimes this can be a time consuming and frustrating experience. The software that I upgraded to was a big improvement, especially in respects to frame rates and color pigmentation.

I do not know if the 9.0MP camera would have a less grainy look to some of the pictures or not. I wasn't and I still am not willing to dive in and purchase a 9.0 MP microscope camera to find out.

I am over all satisfied with the camera and the newer software.
